Tidal thinking reminded me of the importance of flexibility in thinking and reasoning. It also evoked images of seasons changing, tides changing, phases of the moon, and things like that. Just being able to see a topic or an idea from different seasons, perspectives, and angles.
~ Hallie
My first thoughts about tidal thinking are more physical, like the large difference in the amount of exposed land or beach that seems to magically materialize when the tide goes out. Then I think about the fun of seeing the biological life exposed at low tide and memories of my children and me exploring and enjoying what we find (think Maine tides).

Waves and sandy beaches.

I think of meditation, ebbs and flows. Like when you think about something deeply, you take a break, and then come back to it.
~ Cléo
For me, “Tidal Thinking” is symbolic of the range of human experience. Most days, the tides (thoughts) fall in a normal range of experience. However, there are days when the tides are enormous (e.g., a tsunami) and challenge our capacity to process the human experience. Seeing nature, seeing the ocean, as a metaphor for human life is empowering. The more we strive to understand the scientific underpinnings of the world around us, the more we understand ourselves and our place here on earth.
~ Laura
I think of ocean life and life cycles.
~ Cassie
Tidal Thinking brings to mind a tidal wave. A huge wave that crashes over you, and immediately sparks new thoughts and experiences.
~ Gill
My first thoughts about the phrase “tidal thinking” (which I have not heard before) are that it is changing thinking depending on context, the ability to switch “sides” or alter opinions based on what’s revealed, something predictable but unstable.
~ Joanne
The moon. Also, isn’t there a music app that’s called Tidal?
